opinions of parts suppliers

Hello guys. I am currently restoring a 68 4x4 that I am going to need about $2500 worth of parts to put it back together. I was wondering if you folks could give me a good honest opinion of who supplies the best aftermarket parts (ie: rubbers, handles, chrome). I have been looking at LMC and The Truck Shop and I know there are some venders on here also. I just would like to avoid buying a bunch of garbage that I have to force to fit or work if at all possible. Thanks for any help

Re: opinions of parts suppliers

From the sounds of things some places are better at certain parts than others as well

My dad loves lmc but he is the type who won't shop around and I hate their website

Classic parts will run some specials and have coupons for shipping etc

Brothers has some good prices and sales at times

Gmc Paul gets a lot of run on here and I actually unintentionally ordered new sill plates from there off ebay last week and they were shipped very quickly. Wish he had a better website

I spent a majority of my money with gmc Paul with no problems and great service. I will admit to using lmc for my 67 gmc grill since I saved a ton of freight when picking it up local

Re: opinions of parts suppliers

A lot of the vendors sell the same parts, so check out the product review section for specific pieces and things.

As for the vendors themselves and their customer service, just scroll back through this forum for about a year and it'll give you an idea of which vendors want your business and which ones could care less... or don't have a clue.

Good luck,

-W

I use top banana for sheet metal, precision for any rubber/gaskets, mar-k for any bed parts and try and go OEM for the rest of the parts. If I have to go repop I use several different vendors and compare prices. The holidays will give you the best brakes on prices with the catalog companies.

Re: opinions of parts suppliers

All the vendors I have used have really been great to deal with ,some are just closer than others and makes shipping cheaper and I like one in the same time zone as I am so when I call I get a real person. If I need a good used part there is no better place than the parts board on this site .

Re: opinions of parts suppliers

Forget LMC, look for a vendor as near as possible, but across a state line. Instate you pay sales tax and shipping.

All the parts are usually the same, but vendor quality varies.

I despise LMC. I never had a good experience with them. I dont understand why people love them.

Brothers, Classic parts of America have been good. Classic Chevy parts inc. is 5 miles from work so I can walk in there at lunch and grab what I need so that's easiest for me plus they are fantastic to deal with.

Re: opinions of parts suppliers

LMC has never done me wrong and I have got some great stuff from them lately. Vendors, I like WES at Classic Hearbeat, never done me wrong. Bill Athey in VA has always been on point. GMC Pauls is good, just wish he would post a phone number to call.

I have been to SOKY showroom and its not bad. In my experience, they are higher than LMC on a lot of parts.

I will never use Top Banana, Brothers, CPP unless it is the last option.
