Please identify this 12 bolt posi carrier
Bought at swap meet that indicated it was a Chevy truck 12 bolt piece. Should have been more aware as I don't think that is what it is for. The first photo shows it setting beside a non posi 12 bolt truck carrier. The posi unit is 9" top to bottom (when measured outside of bearing to outside of bearing). Anyone know? Thanks in advance for any help.
Randy

Rear
What is the number on it? There should be a 6 digit (if I remember right) on it somewhere.

The number partially covered by the bearing is 761. Haven't noticed any other numbers other than what is shown in the following 2 photos.

The numbers can't be seen very well in the shrunken photo, but it has a big 761 on it, a smaller "2", and "CD" and a smaller yet "176" that has what look like flat head screws cast on both ends of the 176.

rear carrier
Maybe someone else can answer. I'm not real sure what it is. It looks quite a bit bigger than your existing 12 bolt. I rebuilt a couple a few years back and I want to say that the last 3 digits of the series 3 carrier were like 173 (don't quote me). Shoot, that may have even been for the car 12 bolts. I can't even begin to remember the 4-series. Way too much thinking at work has ruined my brain.

Posi?
So the smaller one is a posi? I have one like it but when I turn one wheel the other turns the opposite direction. This is when it is on a jack. I thought the wheels would turn in the same direction?

NO. The smaller one is not a posi. The posi you have, I have only seen in an Olds or Buick diff. IMO not a very good one either. The axles lock by the cones outside the side gears, instead of clutch's like a Chev. I never had good luck with the cone style holding up to much HP. The cones wore into the housing, and slipped.
