Seat Help! Glide Engineering

Hi Guys,
I am building a 1951 Chevy 3100 and someone locally is selling a brand new Glide Engineering seat assembly etc for a good deal. I have been looking for other benches to upholster but wanted to make sure the size was right etc.

Here's my question:
Has anyone here put a 55-59 seat into a 47-54 truck? Any glaring issues I should know or just small minor stuff?

Thanks as always!

Re: Seat Help! Glide Engineering

I'm not sure it would work? I have a Glide bench in my 53 and it is the bench that Glide makes for the 47-53. It is the perfect width, but couldn't be much wider at all or the doors wouldn't close. It seems to me that a bench designed for 55-59 would be wider still. Take your tape measure and remember that the upholstery will add to the width of the bare frame!

So I called glide and they said this one is half an inch bigger than the 51 seats. Is that too much?

Re: Seat Help! Glide Engineering

It will fit...does it come with the riser for mounting? If so you will need to redrill holes.
If not you are going to need risers

This guy will build them custom for you and at a better price than glide. Has a link on the Hamb O'dex as well. Check out the 10th post here... http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/t...d-prod.615201/

Re: Seat Help! Glide Engineering

Best thing is for one of the TF guys to measure his or her stock seat and post the measurement. I'm thinking that the TF seat is quite a bit wider than an AD seat though. It isn't only the width of the cushion you sit on but maybe more critical is the width of the lean back as that is already pretty tight on an AD.
