'71-2 rear end in a '62, what panhard mods?
Hey guys, I've got a line on a rear end from a '71 or '72 C10. I've been doing some searching and know the pads will have to be moved and the panhard bar will have to be modified.
But my question is, what needs to be done to it? I have an adjustable one I bought to fit my stock rear end, will that work? Or would one be easier to work with for the year of the rear end? Thanks guys.

Since you have an adjustable panhard already, I would cut the panhard bar mount off of the HO32 differential currently under your truck and weld it to the '71-'72 12 bolt. The stock '65-'72 panhard bar will be too short since your '62 frame is wider. The longer panhard bar is better anyway.

I second Captains' suggestion.

Thanks for the replies guys, I've never welded anything like that before. But I'll give it my best shot!

I used an adjustable one that I got from CPP . Even though I had to modify it to get it to work it was an easy install

. The other option is to do as slepysal suggests; Get an adjustable bar. There's one that mounts in the factory location on the frame at one end, and then mounts down at the trailing arm saddle / perch / axle pads / ubolt connection.

Here is one brand of panhard bar that doesn't require welding:

Thanks for all the input, I'm very excited about doing all the work this winter. It's got 3.42 gears in it which is exactly what I was looking for. My lucky day.

You'll want to be sure to maintain the correct pinion angle. You could always take the differential to a weld shop, once you tack them in place. You definitely don't want these coming loose.
