68 c10 suspension questions

I have a 6 c10 SWB with a narrowed rear frame that is c notched. I have a projected project with this to be the pulling vehicle for a enclosed trailer with a old school front engine dragster. The truck had a 4 link in it made with the factory trailing arms, coil overs, panhard bar. Has anyone ever beefed one of these frames up to pull with? I have a narrowed truck 12 bolt in it. And Please dont suggest air shocks, looking for something a little more stable. Thanks for any input

Re: 68 c10 suspension questions

A 3/4 ton frame? Thicker, boxed for hauling and pulling then transfer your axle over?

Anything you do or add to your 1/2 ton is pure speculation on our part for suggesting what you can or can not tow safely. Modifying what you have will be boxing, plating, gusseting and you still end up with the front half of the truck a half ton.

Re: 68 c10 suspension questions

No first lets see the frame mods. That will tell the tale on the towing. You can tow with these trucks in stock form with no issues. In the 80's I towed my drag car to the track with my 65 for several years. Made sure tongue weight was correct and had trailer brakes. The frame and suspension mods make this a all new ball game. The c notch now becomes an issue along with the narrowed frame and how it was done.

Re: 68 c10 suspension questions

Not much material left at the c notch to support the rear frame. I would say as it sits that it will bend right there. You said it had a 4 link made out of truck arms. Any pics of that? One other thing you need to look at is the load capacity of the tire and wheel package. Most the fat pro street tires are not designed to run much air in them and have a soft side wall. If it were me doing one to pull a trailer package like you have it would be with a stock frame and C20 stuff if you can find it. It will be much safer.
