help me id this block
i'm trying to identify the engine in my 72. i'm 99% it's a 350 but a two bolt or 4 bolt? the casting# is 3970014. maybe it's just the info i have but i can't find reference to this number. any help is appreciated.

This is some quick google info I found. It's non-descript as to 2 or 4 bolt for any vehicle.

So it looks like it's a 69-79 truck block, but the casting # doesn't say whether it is 2 or 4 bolt.

The only way to be sure of it being 2 or 4 bolt is to pull the oil pan and inspect it.
I've never found solid info on casting numbers. They always offer too great a range. Check on the front passenger side of the engine just under the head, there may be a partial VIN stamped on it. I've heard some say that is for passenger cars only, so it may not apply. If it is original to the truck it's a better chance of being a 4-bolt than if it's a transplant from a car.

According to the notes I have it is a 350 for 68 to 79 car or truck. It is listed as 2 or 4 bolt. Sorry, wish I could be more accurate. Bruce
