Temperature guage sending unit
Where is the best location to place the sending unit to the temperature gauge. In the block or in the manifold. It seem that since i switched it from the block to the manifold it seems to read hotter, I also bought a new sending unit from Kragens, could have I recived the wrong part, do they have different ohms for the sending units. Any info would be a great help. Thanks

Left cylinder head
There are a couple of sizes of sending units, depending on several things. But, it shouldn't be a problem to find/install one in the correct position. I installed a new engine wiring harness on mine, and the sending unit, too. Since my original '69 block has later model heads on it, we had to "shop" for the right sending unit, but got it done. My guage works just fine with new wiring and a new sending unit.
I don't know why you'd see a difference in coolant temp, with placement in the intake vs. the block or a head. In my opinion, the hottest place it can go, is right where mine is, between two exhaust ports.

I am also interested in what all of you have got to say about the location of the sending unit. I am going to be putting in my new motor soon and was going to put mine in the intake.

I think in the head is the best place for it. If you overheat, the head will get hot before the intake, which will give you more time to react before bad things happen. Besides, who cares how hot the intake is...I'm worried about teh actual engine...true, they should be the smae temp, but if everything was like it should be...you wouldn't need the guage.

Listen...GM put it there so...
Then again they did put it in the thermostat housing in the newer Blazer's and trucks. I think the GM design team was BIG on the 4:20
