putting trim and emblems back on and am having a hard time putting on my "cheyenne 10" emblems. i have my inner fenders off still and i can reach the front nut to tighten, but the rear one is tough.

any suggestions, tips? do i need to take the fender all of the way off?

thanks for any help.

yeah, unfortunately that is what needs to be done. You can remove the bolts holding down the rear part of the fender then loosen the forward bolts and "flex" the fender out enough to get your hand in there. I'll be looking at the same problem after I get the truck painted.

I am gonna weld up all of the holes in my body, and not put any of the trim and emblems back on it. That way, I won't have to worry about getting my big hands in those tight places.

Oh Sh$t ! I am putting my truck back together and was going to leave those off until my painter buffed out and touched up my truck , guess I should just try to get them on now. Thanks for the info

It's a pain in the butt...but you can get the emblems on/off with the fender in place.[with the inner fenders off] If you have new emblems run the nuts on first to cut some "threads" in the studs. The front nut is not too bad but that back one will get you cussing. I used a tappet wrench, which is nothing more than a really long open end wrench. Tape the nut to the end of the whench....after about 15 trys you will get it started then it is no problem. Now go drink a beer, sit back and enjoy your work

there was a member on here (flice72c10, or something like that), that used a long screwdriver with a wrench taped to it, to put the rear emblem nuts on

That's what I was wondering; it'd work great for a big square emblem like Cheyenne10 or the bowtie with 10 under it, but I have a Custom10, and all the lettering is spelled out. I'd have to add the tape, then x-acto out around all the letters. Still prolly easier than the above though. Good thought.

THe only sane way to put the emblems back on is to pick up the inserts from Napa and use them. Makes it so much easiere to remove them and put them back on without having to deal with all the hassle of regular nuts. Makes it real easy to pop them on and off when waxing also.

I know the inserts you're talking about; plastic with directional teeth that slide in, but bite when trying to pull them out, but how do they mount to the emblems? Usually there is an oval standoff hole in the plastic piece you are attaching that the head of the insert fits into. Just curious.

The ones I have always used were made of metal and they just slide right into the existing holes and then you could pop the emblems on and off.

I suggest taking your emblems to a paint/body supply store and asking for clips to install them. They may be called "barrel nuts" but not sure.

They are metal and slip into the hole, then the emblem studs snap into them.

I've used them for my C/10 emblems and they work great!

when you guys talk about being able to take the emblem off easier to wax and stuff doesnt that mean it is easier for someone to walk by and steal it off the truck?

Not likely in my neck o' the woods, and I just don't wan't to have to fight the trim when we paint (or try to put it on with the stock nuts afterwards).
