Source for the upper control arm studs

Getting ready to do the 73 to 87 swap on the front of the 66 and I need a set of the upper control arm studs. Mine are looking pretty poor. I would like to put the 73 to 87 studs in it since the are a little longer. Been looking and have not found them anywhere. Any suggestions?

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

I cant find the thread, but someone here replaced them with grade 8 bolts. I am wanting to do the same, however I am not sure if they would snap or not. Different kind of load being placed on them than just straight pressure. Maybe im wrong here.

If Classic parts doesn't have. I would try Chevy Dealership.

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

Called chevy and no go. I can get the later model bolts that are hex head. The later trucks have easy access to get a socked on them. Grade 8 would take the load no problem its just a pain to get to the heads to hold them with the headers and other stuff in the way. Makes adding a shim a two person job. On the hunt still.

Classic Parts of America shows C20/C30 studs.
I wonder it they could be made to work if you enlarge the holes in upper a-arm cross shaft?

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

I used grade 8 bolts. Had to cut the heads off and weld them on the back side.

That's weird, I got them for my 64 last summer. A 64 takes a different part number probably from a 73-87, so maybe they are just out of one and still have a few of the other.

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

I have this new set from classic parts, for a C10, never opened, no longer available. I am not going to need them for my truck.

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

if that is them in the picture in the bag, they look to be round head with a knurl under the head.

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

They are a flat round head with knurl. 1/2" stud x 3.125" long. I don't know if they are longer like you said, "73+ are longer" than earlier models? Classic showed 1963-91 I think. LMC does list a 1/2 ton stud in their catalog but I heard (in the past) that they were wrong. Just pay what I paid for them if you want them.

Re: Source for the upper control arm studs

I have a set on the bench and will measure them when I get home. Will let you know what I find out on the length. They do look like the right ones.
Thanks
Jimmy
