Another flatbed.

I've seen many of the flatbed threads here but my wonder is how the flatbeds sit on the frame.. Talking to my uncle he suggested using a couple wooden 4x4's. I have no idea how i'm going to build this and would be cool if someone had a DIY or diagram(?) to do so.

Thanks in advance,
Joe.

Re: Another flatbed.

We used to mount them on the original bed frame mounts. Run 2x3 square tubing across and bolt your flat deck frame to that. It's really not hard to work it out one you know how your deck will be built

Re: Another flatbed.

The ones I have seen have wood on the frame then the frame of the flat bed on top of the wood.
The wood being about 1.5-2"'s thick and the width of the frame.
The frame of the flat bed had 6 3"x6" steel plates welded to the flat bed frame and bolted to the truck frame.

Re: Another flatbed.

Was thinking of using Pine 1x4 8 footers. Sufficient enough?

Re: Another flatbed.

I would go with 2x4 (1-1/2 x 3-1/2) pine.

Re: Another flatbed.

I think I used some 1.5" channel when I did mine way back when but we added some rubber belting at all the contact points

Re: Another flatbed.

Nephews truck just got out of paint. Looks pretty sweet for a 16 year olds truck!
