'67 c-10 washer switch

i replaced my washer/wiper switch, stock washer pump and hoses. I got it all working, but now the washers come on everytime i turn the wipers on. i know to use the washers, you push the switch in while turning the wipers on and to use the wipers only, you turn the switch without pushing it in. no matter how i use the switch, the washers still come on.

Any help in fixing it would be appreciate it!

Re: '67 c-10 washer switch

The motor is switched ground, so I'll presume the pump is too (easy to reverse the test if its not). Get a test light or DVM and see what you find at the pump wires before and while you turn the washers (only) on. If it powers the motor on the connectors, your switch is bad.

Be sure to check both sides of the circuit (power side and ground). At least one should change when you hit the washer switch. If its the same before and after, it's the switch.

If you replaced the switch, don't you have the old one around to just plug it into the harness (and ground the switch) to test it?

I believe the pump and motor are separate enough that I can't picture a short from one to the other causing the pump to run. If someone can come up with a scenario where it could happen, please throw it in here so he has the full range of possibilities.

Re: '67 c-10 washer switch

Also 67 switch is a little different than 68 and up, the portion that sticks through the dash is actually longer so it may be tough to find a new switch, as it is a one year piece.

Re: '67 c-10 washer switch

More out of curiosity, but does the 67 switch automatically turn on the wipers when you push in for washers?

Re: '67 c-10 washer switch

Dave: yes it does. 71 super: the new switch is a little longer than the light switch below. Although the old wiper switch wasnt? Makes me wonder if the old one was from a different year? Unfortunately I trashed the old switch. Thanx for the advice!
