Proof of AM/FM radio availability in 1969

This might shake some of you up when you see it - the consensus seems to have always been that AM / FM radios were not offered on GM trucks until the 1971 model year ( or so I have been told by 67-72 gurus) but take a look at the dealership bill of sale showing all the options being ordered for this special 1969 GMC 4x4 that was on Ebay - scroll through the pics until you find it. Ppwk clearly shows that among many rare options this truck was ordered with an AM / FM radio, PLUS even more interesting, despite us seeing the proof of it being ordered with it on all the option related window sticker and invoices etc, the AM/FM radio option does NOT show up on the trucks' glovebox decal. How ya like them apples 67-72 gurus? Thoughts? Comments? is this undeniable proof of AM/FM radio availability for 1969 & 1970 trucks?

Re: Proof of AM/FM radio availability in 1969

Looks like a dealer installed item, not factory?

Re: Proof of AM/FM radio availability in 1969

Does anyone have any factory or dealer literature showing that AM/FM's were available in 1969? What about a glovebox SPID? 1971 is the earliest year that I've seen lit. on.

Re: Proof of AM/FM radio availability in 1969

I think it's important to note that the invoice only says AM/FM radio. At the dealership I worked for way back in 1975, you could order an AM/FM with 8-track or cassette. The dealer had a local radio shop install Clarion stereos.

The fact that you could order it from a dealer DOES NOT mean it was necessarily available from the factory. Just look at the Hickey Enterprises parts; you could get those dealer-installed, but not from the factory.

AM/FM radios were NOT offered from the factory, in trucks, until the 1971 model year.

Well that would appear to put this one to bed.

Re: Proof of AM/FM radio availability in 1969

Well, this has been a fantastic debate and very interesting read for sure. I was curious to see what everyone would say, and all comments have been noted.

We now know that the rule stands - AM/FM was not a factory option until 71.

But we also know that some form of AM/FM radio was an orderable accessory on new 1969 trucks, so this was new information to me and other forum members. Always fun to discover things we never knew
