My Craigslist purchase of the day
Little back story first. About a month ago I found the perfect truck, for my wife and I to build, 30 minutes too late. The owner already had someone coming by to look at the truck but gave me 2nd shot at it. I had the truck/trailer/cash ready hoping the 1st dibs guy backed out. Well he didn't....
The guy thanked me for my interest and told me he knew of a guy in his town that my be interested in selling his 1969 longbox and he would check on it for me. I expected that to be the last I'd hear from the guy. Well today he texts me apologizing for the delay and sends me pics of the truck below and says the owner wants to sell and I had first dibs. I'm out of town at work but I immediately sent my wife to pick up the truck when I received pics. $700 later and a 2.5hr trip there and back, my wife picked up our new project. Pics below are when she went to pick it up. I will have more when I get back in town and clean it up. |

Looks like a great place to start. A good wash job will do wonders. What are your plans for it?

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Thanks guys. I'm very surprised it isn't cancerous being a Nebraska truck. We'll leave the body alone. Clean up the interior, big smoothies disc brakes and bags. If the engine/trans isn't salvageable I'll throw a 5.3/auto in it. Looking to make it a daily.

To me, the best part of this story is that your wife went and picked up the truck.

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Good looking find and sounds like you definitely have a keeper for a wife. Mine wouldn't even pull an empty trailer up two feet, let alone drive 2 1/2 hours and come back with a truck. She will feed me and bring me drinks, so I can't complain much.

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Got it cleaned up today. There was a little question about he engine. I know that it isn't original but the previous owner didn't know anything about it. Im not real versed on what came in these trucks. A couple local guys in the shop next to me told me its a late 80s early 90s vortec 350.....anyone have any thoughts?

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Could be a vortec or a tbi head engine. Vortec heads have a sort of saw tooth pattern on the front. Cool truck too

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Isn't that a GM Goodwrench sticker on the air cleaner? Crate motor?

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Looks like the decal was just stuck on an aftermarket chrome air cleaner.

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
It is most likely a crate motor, it's definitely not the original motor or at least not original heads. Because of the center valve cover bolts.

Re: My Craigslist purchase of the day
Nice score! Trucks seem to be in alittle better shape when you go a couple hours west of here. The road salt has killed most of these trucks. Looking forward to seeing it around town!
