Outer floor board removal

Finished cutting out all just about all the rust on both sides except for the outer floor boards.

My new LMC panels have the inner rockers integrated into them as well.

My question is what is the best way to attack removing the outer panel where it attaches to the front firewall, as well as the front cab support?

clean surface where new section will go exposing spot welds. drill out welds. spot welder removal bits pretty cheap at harbor freight. once spots are drilled out separate panels with a old chisel or similar tool. good luck

Thanks, floor boards in that area are pretty rusty. I assumed there were spot welds just wanted to hear from someone that has done it on these trucks.

What I have learned while doing this to my truck is to take pictures of all the areas you are cutting out. You can never have too many pictures to use as reference, in my opinion. To me, it sounds like you may have already cut out all the rusty metal on both sides, which isn't TOO big of a deal, but it would be easier to have one side un-molested to use as reference also. There are so many write ups on here that you can probably get away with doing that, so I wouldn't worry too much. Just take your time and measure 3 times to every 1 time you cut.

Re: Outer floor board removal

I didn't realize how simple of a design it was until I cut it all out.

I'm a helicopter mechanic by trade, cars/trucks are easy

I was just curious as the best way to get the floorboard out around the cab support and front where it meets the lower portion of the firewall/wheel well.

Thanks for the pictures!

I didn't realize my lower A pillars were pretty much gone until I got the outer rockers off so I had to order them today and LMC is out of the passenger side, so I could only order the drivers.

I have noticed just by putting the panels up to eachother, that the holes in the outer floor board and footwells don't line up. Not a huge deal, but I was hoping they would be a little closer.

Re: Outer floor board removal

Driver side is mostly done. Upper footwell hole doesn't even come close to lining up with the very top bolt of the doghouse mount.

Anyone else have this issue?

Also, these outer floor pans dive off at the ends, whereas the factory firewall panel is straight where it meets the pan. Kinda odd.

Kid and dogs woke me up way too early, and I ended up measuring completely wrong, had to make some small patch panels. Mostly in though. Passenger side will be near perfect after doing this side.

Re: Outer floor board removal

The holes were off on the all the panels I used as well. What I did was use the lower fender bracket and front crossmember as a guide to redrill the holes. It doesn't have to be perfect as the lower fender attachment hole has quite a bit of wiggle room. You might try Top Banana for the A pillar they are out of. When I ordered the driver side was on backorder as well. Took 4 weeks to get it.

One other advice I can give is spray rust inhibitor in the floor crossmember to help with the rust.
