What's behind your seat..?
Hi all!
The following is a thread that I made on another 73-87 truck forum here: http://forum.73-87chevytrucks.com/sm...6515#msg246515 (Check out the CUCV M1028) I'm still looking for some inspiration. Saw a nice custom wood shelving mod by poster "tucsonjwt" here: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...4&postcount=30 tucsonjwt, did you follow a template for that? ----------- Looking for ideas for organizing the area of the cab behind the seat. Looking for your input on what to have, how to store/install it. Anyone seen a truck of our kind that has been used in a military/police/security/fire capacity? I'd imagine they'd have a sturdy setup for equipment. Rough Ideas: Items: Flash Light Fire Extinguisher Firearm Med Kit Trash Container Tools Ice-Scraper/Squeegee Oil/Trans Fluid Interior Body: OEM Panelboard (what I have now) Caged/Custom Mods: 12V Cig Socket USB Power Socket Custom wired holster for LED FL charging Rifle Rack FE bracket Small Safe So, what's behind your seat? What's your setup? Any pics? Where do things attach, weld, wire or screw into, and what's the proper way of going about it? ----------- Mine (Panelboard not in at the moment): Sincerely, IdahoMan |

One big box with two 12" competiton woofers. Both powered by a nice stainless steel amp. Eardrum busters even with the windows rolled down!

Re: What's behind your seat..?
No template - just measured with the seat all the way back - so no rubbing anywhere. I used 3 self tapping sheet metal screws in the lip under the window in the vertical recess spaces so the short screws would not penetrate the back wall of the cap - plenty secure. The custom cab corner speaker boxes were also very handy and no cost to build using scraps I had available.
My best advice - lay out everything you want to store and then design a storage bin to accommodate each item. Store most frequently used items on top and outer cubbies. This is basically just a big open front triangle with a 1/4" plywood back and 1Xs and other plywood pieces for the shelves and dividers. If might be a good idea to just use cheap plywood or MDF or even OSB if you are undecided on what you want so you don't waste expensive stock. Actually, nobody will see it back there so cheap stock is probably the most practical option. |

Re: What's behind your seat..?
Bought this behind the seat shelf setup many years ago. I think it is a Rubbermaid product. Found it at Pepboys. Cut some carpet pieces to line the bottoms of the shelf areas to cut down on rattles.

Also have a 5lb CO2 that someone was tossing. IIRC, it was about $45 to get it re-certified and refilled. |

Re: What's behind your seat..?
My reason for not going with the plastic store bought box again is that I wanted long bins for items, like the jack and handle and rolled up jumper cables, etc., and the purchased box had relatively small fixed shelves.
Also, if a long gun were stored I would want to put it in a custom sized cubby with a locking front panel hinged on the bottom side. I have known guys who had their rifle stolen from their truck and it was an easy grab and go for the thief. I think if a thief has to do some extra looking and fiddling to break another lock or two it might slow him down enough to think twice about dawdling around. |

Re: What's behind your seat..?
This is the best one I've seen. It's more speaker-oriented, but the concept can be adapted to anything. If this was his first attempt at fiberglass, maybe results like this really are attainable by the average Joe.
