Small hub wheels on drum brakes

I hope this is in the right spot. I didn't see a wheel specific forum.

I recently acquired a set of torq thrust st 6 lug wheels for my 70 C10. I pulled one of my rallies off to do a test fit of the wheel and noticed that the hub on the drum is around 4" while the hub on the wheel is around 3". This seems like a bit of an issue and I was curious as to how I might go about resolving it. I'm sure it is related to a new aftermarket wheel vs. old brake design, so I am hoping this is a somewhat common issue with a fairly easy resolution.

There are three options : run a 1/4" spacer
Turn down the hub on the axle
Machine the hub on the rim
I chose to machine the rim on my 24" foose wheels in order to fit on a 68' rearend. The rims were intended to fit newer style 1/2 tons. It worked out perfect.

I had that issue once. Took mine to a machine shop.

I had those wheels on my 65. Put the hub in the lathe and turned it down and then pulled the rear axles and turned them to 3.050 also. Left just enough of a lip to register the drums.

I ended up finding information online on how to increase the bore with a router and rabbeting bit. It turned out great. I had to go 1" deep instead of the 1/2" I planned because the first router I used was junk and allowed the bit to slip. Really easy process and I was able to do all 4 wheels in about an hour. Total cost was less than $100 including a brand new router and now I have a few new tools in my garage. Here's a few photos

Unmodified wheel

First cut 1/4" wide (1/2" increase in bore) and 1/4" deep

Final product 1/2" wider bore and 1" deep for plenty of clearance.
