How difficult is it to do the conversion? What is the process, and what parts are needed? I have been giving some thought to this, because I really don't like having to pull the axle and everything out when it comes time to do my rear brakes. Is this a DIY project, or are there some areas where a professional needs to participate in? If someone could give me a semi-detailed list of parts needed and of the process I would appreciate it.

Thanks in advance for any and all info.

Easy

Its pretty easy other than making the machined brackets but if you buy them then its a simple hour job. You need front rotors off a late 70's 3/4 ton 4x4, calipers off an 1978 cadillac eldorado, short flex brake hoses. Do not use hardline right to the calipers because over time they will stress and eventually break. Jack vehicle up pull rear wheels. Pull rear axles by unbolting six or eight bolts (can't remember) then pull out shaft. Use a screwdriver to unscrew two locknuts and star washer inside the hub. Unbolt rear center bolt up top on backer plate so that old brakes will come off with drum (makes pulling those mamoth things easier). Pull off old drum. Unbolt backer plates four bolts. Put brackets on bearings, rotors, calipers flex brake line oh and don't forget the axles shaft itself. Lastly tires. If I forgot anything please add for me. Sounds pretty simple huh?

I am buying a set. This guy lives about seventy five miles from me. We've been communicating through e-bay. Said he would even install them for me for a $100 if I brought the truck to his shop with all the other parts needed (rotors calipers etc). So guess where I'm going to be at 10 a.m. Sat morn. I'll take pics and let you know how it goes.

Thumbs up

That would be great! If it looks good, he could expect a rush of customers from the board, I would think....

Shelby01 is getting his put on in the morning. Just so you all know this design was my first prototype design. It utilizes four spacer blocks which you can see in the first pic. I am currently working on a set that is formed and will not need spacer blocks at all it will be a one piece design. At the present time I do not know of anyone doing a one piece design. I built these soley because everyone was selling these for too much and I needed a set for my own project, then I decided hey why not try to sell some to help finance my own project. These are made from P&O 3/8 thick mild steel. There very tough I had a set mounted on my friends truck he drives an hour one way to work each day, and has had no problem for the last eight months. I am a production manager for a laser outfit actually and thats why I was mad enough to make my own in the first place ( l know what something like this actually costs to build). Have been selling these on e-bay for about a week but to my friends locally for several months.

Iam in the process of doing a conversion on my 67. Will these brackets work? I beleive its a 12 bolt rear end. If not, can you make brackets for it?

First I can make brackets for anything provided I have sufficient information. Second I do not have a rear end like this sitting around so I cannot tear it apart and see what it would take to make things work. Which is what I did on the Corporate 14 FF. Does anyone else already make this? And is there a demand for me to try to design one of these? Do you thoroughly understand how these conversions work? If you can answer these questions we can go from there. Possibly if I had a drawn layout of bolt holes and rotor dimensions then we can see if my brackets would even work. I am willing towork with you but need some help on your end (literally rear end)

Yes, I understand how conversions work. And yes there is a demand for this product. Just visit the 67-72 message board and ask. There are conversion kits on the market, however they are very expensive.

Why are they expensive? Are they machined at all or are they just fabricated brackets? Find me a good link to a set and I'll take a look at them.
