I have a thread in the audio forum but I also wanted to see what you guys were running in 67-72 specifically instead of forum wide. Just list brand, model numbers (if possible) and such. Pics are much appreciated.

My current setup:

(2) Rockford Fosgate Punch P142 4" in the dash (factory location)
(2) Rockford Fosgate Punch P1694 6x9s in the doors (PO had previously cut)
(1) RF Prime R250X4 4-channel amp

I'm currently running this directly off my phone via a 3.5mm to RCA cable and sounds pretty good. It could definitely use a preamp/headunit of some sort. I feel it would sound a lot better. I will be changing this out by the time the truck sees the road again. I don't want to cut the dash so I may go with a marine unit like the Clarion CMS2 or CMS5 and hide the remote. I will also be swapping out the Prime amp and putting in a Punch for a little added sound quality.

I'm looking forward to it too, I don't want to mess up my dash cutting It up. hopefully there are some custom interior ideas out there with a hidden radio I can get some ideas from.

Oh I don't care if I cut doors or dash, trucks not gonna be a bit stock or numbers matching lol I just want good sound

I have a dual kenwood speaker under the dash in the original location and I have two kendwood kick panel speakers. It sounds really good as it is now and I will soon have a kendwood sub under the seat for a little extra thump!

If you do my want to cut your dash and want an original look with great sound possibilities then look up Gary Tayman radio conversions. He takes stock am radios and converts them to am/fm radio with all new radio parts and guts and has iPod connection, Bluetooth, and it keeps the original am faceplate and all the original buttons and knobs and they work as original. He does am/fm radios too. I had a retro sound for 5 years and really didn't like it at all so I sent my am radio out and has it converted and I am amazed at how nice it is and how good the sound is and it's cheaper than evereybody else at only $385 or so. It had multiple inputs for things like subs, and extra speakers. I LOVE mine

Dual set up in my '71 4x4. Original factory AM/FM truck radio in un-cut dash with a replacement speaker from www.turnswitch.com. Found the AM/FM at a swap meet and had it rebuilt.

Hanging from under the dash is a Sanyo FXCD550 CD/Cassette, AM/FM using Pioneer 6 x 9 150 Watt tri-axials in the cab corners, Polk 100 Watt 5 1/4'' under the dash. Cab corner speaker mounts purchased from board member "bigblock73". Head unit is in a marine weather proof mount, cab tank moved to under the bed behind rear axle.

Mine's not for everyone. Especially for the "stocker" guys.

I was fighting the "what should I do about sounds" question, leaning heavily toward re-installing the very broken stock
radio and listening to the best sounds...Exhaust. In my case, through two 40-Series Flowmasters.

My pal, to whom I'd sold a car that I'd earlier gone crazy on the sound system, wanted something different. He gave me
back my Pioneer AVIC C1. Don't know how many watts/channel. But mega for the time, I think.

I decided to cut the back off of the stock radio, which was absolute junk anyway, and install it into the uncut dash...Just for looks.

Then, I built a box for the Pioneer and ran the lines for the mic, set up the DVD to play in all modes of travel
(just for the music..but the screen's on), 10Gb CD Library, Sat Radio, GPS and a connection for the phone. I ran the sound to
only two inexpensive box-speakers, one in the passenger well behind the seat, and the other next to the driver's seat

Like I said, it's not the common "wanted" set up. But it was "free". Sort of. And I can take it completely out in about
ten minutes if I get tired of looking at it.

No harm done.

I built a 1990 Suburban awhile back and I didn't care for the limited 4x10 speaker options for the rear in the side panels. I have always liked using later model Cadillac Bose component speakers-they are rated at 1.5 ohm and when you push them a little on a 2 ohm load they literally sound amazing! So, for better rear full range sound and with keeping a stock appearance, I made adapters to mount (2) midrange speakers and a tweeter w/crossover into each factory speaker cover. They fit in the opening and everything. I even used black landscape fabric as a liner on the inside of the speaker grill covers so you can't see anything. 100% stealth and much better sound than any 4x10 can sound. I ran everything in series and this 3-speaker component set was seeing 80W RMS!

Not 67-72 but hopefully you might get some ideas....

G and Mag, you both have pretty setups. Wish this area had more traffic. Mods could you pleeeaaasseee move this back to 67-72? I posted there cause I already had a thread here, and I want to see what people did with our trucks specifically. Thanks, Jack.

Like so many others here I didn't want to cut my dash for the head unit, so I was looking into one of them Retro Sound radios until I read from some people here in this forum that they just run their phones right into an amp via RCA cables and I really liked that idea. So today I finally got it done: my phone goes right into a little Blaupunkt EMA 255 amp and 2 Alpine 5.25 speakers in the original position. Very happy with the sound, of course it's not the big bass boomer, but loud and clear and very defined. The best thing is I could leave my radio delete plate in the dash for an extremely clean look !! Thanks for the tip !
