I guess this is prolly a stupid question but i recently picked up a front clip off a 79 suburban. I have read lots of times that you need a HD factory setup to run aftermarket 6lug rotors. How can you tell if it is HD or LD, what to look at measure etc.

I think i may have figured this out on my own. The thickness of the rotors surface itself needs to be 1 1/4 inches for heavy duty. The ones on the donor clip are 1 3/16 but it is a 30+ year old truck. Am i right?

You did figure it out, 1 inch versus 1 1/4 inch is the difference. Your rotors are obviously well thicker than 1" so you're good to go.

As an aside, no one has ever confirmed seeing a Suburban with light duty brakes. Lacking any new evidence to prove contrary, all Suburbans came with the bigger brakes.
