Anyone ever get a little distracted?
I may have a problem with ADD, or something like that. So, I started a thread about a year ago where I got a RIDICULOUS deal on a JEGS GM crate engine for $1207.99 SHIPPED
My truck still runs OK (smokes out of DS exhaust a little and has low compression on cyl 3, but still runs decent, motor has already been rebuilt to 0.040 over). So I was in no hurry and the truck is still drivable... Anyway, the day it showed up: So far, I've managed to unwrap it, set my pretty intake on it, look at it, and put it back in a corner. My distractions for the year (this is only about HALF) Honestly, this may have been one of my most productive years ever: It started off with a complete suspension rebuild on my Mustang. It made it to the big 50th show in Charlotte this year AND the first couple legs of the Hot Rod Power Tour! Unfortunately, that's where this fairy tale ends as the C4 automatic took a dump on me on my way home from the tour. Somehow, I made it home. The next day I went to move the car and the trans was gone and smelled horrible. So out with the old and in with a junkyard T5, 5 speed! Could I just install a junk yard trans? Nope. Decided to take a leap and rebuild my first trans ever... and believe it or not the damn thing works! Then I decided my front porch looked a little dumpy, so I tore off all the old rails, refinished the floor, repainted the outside wood, new lattice, and new Trex rails. The awesome front porch made the back deck look a little pitiful... so that came down... and up went a new one.

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
I haven't touched my 67 in quite a while, because it seems what little free time I have is spent helping my son work on his Camaro. The truck will get a little love over Christmas break. I'm finally going to install that PS set-up I bought over a year ago.

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
I got a similar problem. I get projects done, just not projects on the truck.
Here is this years time sink: Before: As of this weekend: But now it just snow balls. The landscaping is almost done and now the fence looks like crap. (Guess who is building a fence next) Then the front yard looks great, but the back looks like a landmine went off. |

I'll bet your neighbors loved that! Looks great! My neighbor got pissed at me (not literally, we get along great) after I finished my porch, he said his wife won't stop bugging him to redo theirs now I know what you mean, I started a full blown, every room remodel on our house in 2009. We got a new roof from a hail storm! Back deck and front porch done, and every room in the house is done except the computer room & closet, and upstairs hallway. I'm sooooooooooo close. Hope to finish up the inside over the next few winter months! Quote:
That's a good problem to have!

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
Between work, kids, motorcycles, snowmobiling, firewood, keeping my awesome wife happy, and all of lifes other fun things, I feel obligated to work on er a little more than I do and then it creates more stress! I "just want it done" but then I'm afraid I'll be bored!
Then I look at it from the other side; I could live in an apartment with no yard, 2 new vehicles and not be allowed to touch a bolt for fear of offending neighbors, working 40 hours a week. WHAT DO "THOSE" PEOPLE DO WITH THEIR TIME!?

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
I've had my panel "done" for many years. Body work done and painted, chassis totally rebuilt by Livrat, I believe I have every single part I need to put the giant puzzle back together.
I'm sure there are dozens of posts over the years by me saying I'm gonna bring it home soon and get it put together. I was gonna have it home this August, then by the end of the year ... maybe first part of 2015? Other projects have gotten in the way, and I think deep down its not something I even care about much any more. But then I think, once I get it home Ill be jacked on it again. We may never find out ... could be another one of my rigs that ends up as a barn find down the road =)

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
My 70 is slowly getting there, my Jegs motor is ready except for fluids and those stupid things I forgot... I have my new/old core support and inner fenders stripped cleaned and painted. My four row rad is ready to go. I am working on striating and fixing my front and rear bumpers so I can get them to the powder coater.
A bunch of patch panels showed up this week after the black Friday deals. I need a Left Side front fender... still hoping to find one that is medium green. Need some medium green paint for the firewall and cab. Need to fix the inner roof a bit. Redo the left side rocker. And really want to get a new wiring harness while I am at it... I figure if I am going to pull the front end apart, paint the frame and firewall, and otherwise do things right I might as well drop in new copper while I'm at it. What's stopping me is, the wife and I bought our first house, and we have been busting butt on it for the last 4 months. so I am definitely broke. I have a full time Job with Infinity Cutting Tools as the resident woodworker, blogger, video production Guy, tech support, and when needed customer service and shipping support guy. I also build guitars and Ukuleles on the side and had to finish up a couple when we got the house so I had to set up my woodworking shop quick... ooh my garage is full of woodworking tools so no cars reside inside. Yea It's been a fun year. hard to take apart your truck when you know your going to need it in 2 weeks for something. Did I mention I am broke? |

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
CG, there's a few VERY NICE long term projects on the forum that I would really like to see completed but seem to have gone on forever (all are very nicely pained and complete). The ones that come to mind are yours, Robs 'Burb, and project Lemon Drop (pickup). Like you mentioned, I believe all of these projects have been fully painted rollers for a minimum of 5 years.
I ripped out all the carpet the day we got the keys and it's been ongoing for the past 5-1/2 years. I really am close to done though

Distractions? Good Lord, I have so many projects all going on at the same time; cars, trucks, refoaming vintage stereo speakers, repairing old biycles, lawn care.......

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
Yes, you are way too distracted - especially being a Clemson fan. I'm down in Gamecock country and I am more than willing to come up and borrow that new motor of yours for a few years while you work on your other projects. I'll even paint it Orange. Hopefully you'll forget about it and concentrate on building a 351 Cleveland for your Mustang.

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
Whether you call them distractions, projects, honey do lists, chores or whatever, it all comes down to priorities for me and there always changing.
Firewood & leaf clean-up in the fall, indoor projects in the winter, yard & outdoor projects in the summer, and when the little lady is pissed the honey do list moves to the top. "LOL" Oh and health issues, I've had my share this year. First it was a cyst on my knee that put me back about 6 weeks, and just recently ( 2 weeks ago ) I had a minor stroke, THAT was scary spent some time in MGH Boston, I'm fine now but got a wake-up call !!!! But even with all this going on I got more done on my truck this yr than ever, and over the Holidays I have almost 2 weeks off and at least some of that time will be spent on the truck. It's being move back up on the priority list !!!! Gary

Re: Anyone ever get a little distracted?
It's in his signature and yes, shes a beaut!
My job gets in the way a lot too. Being paid salary blows because I know I'm not "making extra" for those 50-60+hr weeks I sometimes have to put in.
