Re: red line radials
Although they're not "period correct" for our trucks, they would look pretty cool, especially with Corvette rally wheels.

Re: red line radials
Yep. Love them. Oddly they're Asian, like Yokohama or something. Not on my truck, but here's a set on my car. Did they ever come on trucks? I wouldn't think so.
They look cool from 30 feet away, but if you look any closer it's obvious that they are radials, as the transition from treat to sidewall is very different on a bias ply. I have actual redline bias plys on another car, but no good picture of the wheel. But I imagine we all know the difference. As a kid this car had whitewall radials with a thin (maybe 7/8") stripe. So that was what was actually used or in style at the time. Corvette Rally wheel? Why not an original Pontiac disc brake wheel like this? :-)

Re: red line radials
The Diamondback redlines that are going on mine:
They are a redline sidewall applied to a Nitto 555 (295/45/18). Diamondback has many sizes of redlines (and gold lines and blue lines and wide whites) applied to various tires. Wheels are Super Performance Shelby Daytona Coupe replica center lug wheels. Here they are on the chassis: |

Re: red line radials
I don't know about not being period correct as it seems they were on muscle cars of the same era, but they look WAY better than a silly wide whitewall on a late '60s truck!!!

Re: red line radials
They may not have come on trucks but late 60s, early 70s cars had them so they are "period correct". I had a 71 Tr6 with them.

Re: red line radials
Red lines are period just not factory on Chevrolet Light Trucks. Same goes for dual stripe white walls and white letter tires. These were all aftermarket offerings in the early 70s.

Re: red line radials
Actually by 1970, Polyglas GTs and Wide O Ovals RWL tires we OEM on quite a few muscle cars. Redlines we OEM on some Pontiacs, Mopars and Triumphs but more mid to late '60s than '70s.

Re: red line radials
Sidebar: one of the guys in my Pontiac club invented the red line tire.
He was a designer in the Chevrolet Styling studio at the time. Paul Deesen is his name. He did the front end and rear end on early 60's Chevy's, the concave rear window on the '63 Grand Prix, the GTO emblem, the front end on the '65 Grand Prix, the S truck Blazer, and the interior of the GMC motor home (those are what come to mind). Re: red line radials
I had double pinstripe reds on my first bicycle. A sears bike with some amazingly dangerous options like a frame mounted "drag brake" that worked a rear rim grabber, a very tall sissy bar and came with an accessory steering wheel handle bar. Probably not the ideal bike to learn how to ride on.

Re: red line radials
Funny I had a Raleigh Chopper with Red Lines on it. Luckily that didn't morph into a desire for English sports cars. But even then Land Rovers had me hooked.
