Rechrome vent glass
Has anyone tried to rechorme the vent glass assembly? Have been looking for some good ones. There going in a show truck so they need to be really good.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
I haven't but it shouldn't be difficult to have done. The chrome piece has to come off when you rebuild the vent windows anyway. The striker plate for the wing window latch may have to be removed separately and re-installed, which means bent back into place so not sure if that would hold up. This piece may be stainless though IIRC and could be polished.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
I was thinking only of the upright chrome trim piece but yes there's also the frame for the window glass. To get the frame free for re-plating you would first need to remove the whole assembly from the door. The window frame itself could be removed without disassembling the whole assembly but if going this far might as well do the upright chrome trim and replace the weatherstripping. Also, not sure how well the riveted window pivot would hold up to chroming - best to drill out the rivet and re-rivet back together after plating I suspect rather than chrome as an intact unit.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
Board member JohnH showed me a pair that he had sent off to be refinished, including the rubbers and the channel, and they looked great. You might want to ping him to see what he did.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
I just dropped off my vent window pieces for chrome and polish of the stainless portions. Cost was 300 bucks. Hope to have them rebuild next week when the chrome is done.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
I just sent them my old chrome ones. Shop around, my local shop wanted $550 with a 5-7 week turn around. Perfomance plating was half the price and I received them to my door within 2 weeks.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
Do you have to drill the pivot point and take the window frame out and have two pieces? Looks like that would be the only way to get it right. Has any one used or heard about Chrome Wizard in Juliet Tnn.

Re: Rechrome vent glass
Honestly I have almost completely restored my 67 and the only thing that has defeated me was my wing windows. Nothing worked for me and nothing was tight. I had 350+ in completely restoring them and in the end they just weren't right and I ended up buying a set from roger. He is a pro at what he does. Just something to consider.

Agree that rebuilding vent windows is a PITA. Getting a set from Roger Koop as mentioned is worth considering.
