Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Do any of you know what the length and diameter of the center pin is for the rear leaf springs on my 1980 C10? It has the standard duty spring packs (NOT Heavy Half), with only three main leaves and an overload.
The reason I'm asking is that I'm making a "zero rate" lowering block to fine tune the ride height, and will need to pick up a new center pin. Thanks! |

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Usually 1/2"-9/16", but it varies. I've seen some at 5/8"
I use a socket head cap screw to make the pin on lowering blocks. You should be able to look inside the leaf perch on your axle to get a better idea.

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
I'm pretty sure that mine is smaller than that. I think that the wrench size is only 9/16" for the nut on the pin.

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Pardon me. I was describing the head of the pin.
Yes, 3/8"-24. Length varies by the stack. It is common to get them excessively long, and cut them down after the pack is compressed.

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Thanks - I'll just pick up a pair that are too long and cut them down. I figure that I will need about 2-1/4" for the original spring pack, plus the height of my new blocks.

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Buy a couple different sizes and then return the one you don't use. I got one that I thought was the correct size and then "just tried the bigger one" and found out that was a better, tighter fit.
Always good to have options when you are in the middle of tearing the suspension apart!

Re: Leaf Spring Centering Pin Size?
Yeah - I decided to just measure them tonight and make sure I get the right ones tomorrow. I figured that if one of you happened to know, I could work on it tonight, but I can wait until tomorrow.
