69 gmc 4x4 front leaf spring install help
I have a 69 GMC 4x4 1/2 ton that I am replacing the front leaf spring bushings on. Got the bushings all installed but I am finding the front bushing steel insert is a little wider than the hanger. So much it won't go in and I don't want to tear up the insert. What's the best method for getting it in there? Heat the hanger and widen? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Just figured out it is the wrong part....back to the parts store. About a 1/4 inch too wide. Yep, I'm new at this.

Re: 69 gmc 4x4 front leaf spring install help
Hope the new part fits better. I had the same issue when I put the Softrides on my K20, but far less than 1/4". One of the metal inserts was too long so I ground off just enough that it would fit, probably around 1/16" or so IIRC. The other side either just fit, or maybe took just a bit of grinding.

Re: 69 gmc 4x4 front leaf spring install help
I am glad you found the right part. I had the same truck same problem. I did have the right part, but the PO's had over-tightened the bolts and artificially narrowed the mounts. Nothing but hard work to widen them back out. Bruce

I had same problem with the krapjacker soft rides. Grinder did the trick.
