I've seen those rear cab panels on ebay both small and big back window. Don't know anything about them just that they are there for sale.

If it's that bad, it's that bad all around most likely. I have a little bit of rust-through in my rain gutters and what appears to be someone's decades-old attempt to repair some rust-through on the interior near the B pillars with bad torch welding. I'm hoping I can drill out the spot welds and replace the roof panel the way Bam (Kabwe) did and only have to patch minor areas inside but there's always the wildcard of a lot more rust once you dig in. SoCal Craigslist currently has one big window cab for a $1500 asking price!

If it is there check the front window eye brow and A pillar. All the patch pieces are repoped, window and door fit needs attention.

Re: anyone have this type of rust on a 55-59 cab ???
There are guys in Kansas that call that "patina" .
Premier Street Rods started building new replacement TF cabs a while back and in the process offer most every piece of sheet metal for the cabs. Not a bad price compared to the Ebay offering above either. Still a lot of coin to lay out but it's an option as is forming your own patch panels and patching it. https://www.premierstreetrod.com/det...ge_Window.html

Re: anyone have this type of rust on a 55-59 cab ???
I'll just have them patch it
I don't know why I'd buy the whole patch when I need that one place

Ouch! How's the rest of it? I'd be afraid it's swiss cheese.

If you have access to a Media Blaster I would suggest you have the whole cab cleaned like you said it will get repaired. Cleaned metal is easier to weld on and you can take a before and after picture of repairs nothing is more gratifying than saying I fixed that.

+ 1 it about preservation but sometime you have to look at the whole picture replace just enough to make it better and yet not loose the originality thats the real struggle....Sp

Re: anyone have this type of rust on a 55-59 cab ???
Any good body man with the right tools can duplicate any body part, just take experience and time. I have almost 40 years of history with my truck but if it got severely damaged would not think for 2 seconds about a $1K replacement vs $5K in bodywork to fix the original. I think your grandpa would support the same decision for you. You could check with DMV on how to legally transfer the VIN to the new cab.
