1967-68 hub caps question

Are these two years the same mold and just different covering ? Chrome for the 67 and paint for the 68 ? I'm having a hard time finding the 67 in chrome in good condition. I found a nice set of 68's I could just send off to get chromed ???? Whats the difference between the two besides the paint and chrome ? Anyone who has firsthand knowledge please chime in. Thanks

I can tell you for sure that the one on the wheel & tire is a '68 and it has the internal spring clips on the optional 8.25" wide wheel...

Re: 1967-68 hub caps question

I found a nice set of supposedly 68 caps I can get. What if I have them chromed for my 67 ? Would you be able to tell ? I have no experience with 67 or 68 caps, they look the same to me.

Re: 1967-68 hub caps question

Either year could have been chrome or painted. The difference is that 67 caps had only red bow tie and stripes but 68 had red and black. The chrome ones in the pics are definitely 68, I can't tell about the one one the tire/wheel.

Re: 1967-68 hub caps question

Yes they are 67. But like Lockdoc stated there are three versions of what wheel they will fit. One version will fit wheels with nubs and the other two version fit wheels with clips. Also I've seen 67 caps with two different style Chevy Bowties. Most people don't notice the difference though.

I see one difference is the chevron. Any others ? Is the shape of the cap the same or is it different ?

Its the same, what kind of wheel do you have?

Check out the hubcaps here, you see the difference with the bowtie and these caps fit wheels with nubs. They measure roughly 10-1/4" ID. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=652504

Re: 1967-68 hub caps question

Just for your info, if you buy used chromed caps make sure you ask or look to see if they split or have cracks on the rolled edge that touches the wheel. Most of the 67 chromed caps that I had where brass although a few where steel.

I sold all of my chromed caps and had a set of steel caps chromed. I'm pretty sure that those chromed 67 caps on the blue tarp were mine, but i could be wrong as its been years. But I do know those 68 caps on the hard wood floor were mine.

You really can't go by the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton description as you could get factory wheels in a larger diameter for the 1/2 ton then some wheels utilized clips and others had nubs for the caps to snap on.

I don't remember the measurements for the clip stye hubcaps. Someone else is gonna have to chime in. Hope you find what you need. Nate

Re: 1967-68 hub caps question

Questions about hubcaps comes up a lot on the 60-66 Forum. It gets confusing because most all pre '69 hubcaps look the same from the front, BUT, beware, they are different on the back side. Here is the deal, get the measurement of the back side opening, before you buy. 10 1/4" back side opening is for C 10 bump type wheels. 7 5/8" opening is for C 10 clip type wheels. 8 3/4" opening is for C20 C30 clip type wheels. YOU NEED CLIP TYPE WHEELS FOR CORRECT '67 AND '68 3/4 ton HUBCAPS! There is a way to add clips to newer wheels, but that's another thread.
