70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Going to throw a set of newer Chevy 2500 rims on my truck and need to put a set of spacers on so that the caps clear the axle in the rear. Here's my dilemma. The studs on my 1970 C20 are ½". Is there a problem using the 1.5" spacers with 9/16" studs? I was going to buy the 9/16" lug nuts off eBay so the caps will work. I doubt there is any huge difference in the machining on the spacers. What do you guys think?

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

I did the same thing with my Dana 60 to match the front width with disc brakes. I called the company (off eBay). And they sent the correct 1/2" ball lug nuts for the truck and spacer. Along with the 9/16" nuts for the wheels.

Here's a set of 32 1/2" lug nuts. Do you have a Dana or Eaton? I don't think you need spacers with an Eaton.

Those nuts look a little weird. I would recommend calling whoever you order from. I think they are a special lug nut (chambered at a different angle). I believe they were called a ball lug nut.

The lug nuts in the eBay link are for using the Chevy/GMC 2500 or Hummer H2 aluminum wheels and the Chevy or GMC caps on trucks with 1/2" studs not for attaching spacers to the axle.

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Not real sure what 2500 rims you are using but if you can find center caps off of a Dually for your wheels, they are deeper and they clear the axle in the rear. Then you won't need spacers. Just a thought! I found Dually center caps and the external threaded lug nuts needed on Ebay for mine when I did it. Worked perfect!!!

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Forgot to mention that you don't need the spacers with Dually center caps.

Good luck!!!

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

I have the factory chrome 8 lug 16inch 2500hd 2002 caps fitted to the front. P/N = 46272

Does anyone know if the chrome DUALLY caps will clear the axle extension on the back of a 1970 C20?

Anyone know the part number of the same type of DUALLY caps?

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

My truck has these axles sticking out the back wheels...

And this is the problem when I try to fit the caps in the post above to the 2500HD alloy wheels when fitted to my 1970 C20.

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

It looks like this is what I need but with the Chevy bow tie as per the second picture. Im sure its the same just doesn't show the height of the clearance for the large hub.

Anyone at all know what the part number is for these? Or where I can buy them?

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

I have the 2000 Chevy 2500 center caps on stock steel wheels on my 1970 C/20. Just need 2002 Chevy astro van 1/2 lug nuts that have the 27mm outer thread.

Note, I replace the gold bow ties with blue ones to look more period correct.

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Or Dorman part number 611-178 lug nuts. These are the correct 1/2"-20 with the 27mm outer thread for the little black caps.

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Thanks for the replies guys.

I have all of the lug nuts and have been able to fit to the front but not the rear.

My axles hang out the centre of the rear wheels as per the attached photo which is what is preventing me using the same caps I have fitted on the front.

Tony does your truck also have the protruding axles?

If so do you know what the part number is for the rear centre cap?

The last caps posted above are later versions of what I have.

Re: 70 C20 Wheel Spacer Dilemma

Yes, my C/20 has the same axle as yours. My 2000 Chevy caps clear the axle.
