Question WTB Steering Box Frame Brace for 4x4 !

Im getting ready to re-do my '80 one ton 4x4 dually , and am in need of an aftermarket brace to re-enforce the frame where the steering box mounts. Anyone used this brace, and does it work?

Does anyone have the set-up for sale / or know where you can get them?

Any info is appreciated! THANKS!

These guys offer both the weld in and bolt in brace--I have used their bolt in braces and they are very good quality but I have never had to use one of the weld in braces so I can't speak for them.

another option, 70-72 blazers and some 4x4 pickups of the same vintage had a factory installed steering box brace that mounted inside the frame rail and tied into the front crossmember that goes under the radiator support. it takes a bit of work to install but is well worth the effort.
if you're interested, try posting on the 67-72 parts board for someone parting an early 4x4 blazer or 4x4 pickup. thats where i picked up a couple of mine.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info!

79silv4x4, I had asked about this earlier and didnt earmark the site. (search isnt working)

stlaser, I would be iterested in more info on what you might have.

Jerry, Ive got a couple of 72 Blazers.. never new they may have a brace ... will check that out.

Just a little info on the 1 ton dully.. It had a complete makeover in '91. The chassis now has over 350,000 miles on it , and as I tell everyone ...its not quite half worn-out yet! Main problem was a 95 Ford truck pulled out in front of me last winter , we TOTALED IT!! I drove my truck away , and after a couple hours of torching the plow undercarriage and front bumper off , almost good as new.

It originally was a pickup and had a 350 / 4 spd. I put a steel flat bed with hoist and a 454 /400-205 in it 12 years ago, along with power windows and locks, tilt, tach , etc.

Im hoping to start the 2nd major "re-do" of the 1 ton next week.. lots to do . New rockers/cab corners. Am putting an '86 Silverado front clip on it. Also got a 60-40 split seat from a '95 Silverado. Still looking for an oil cooler. also new cd / amp / speakers.

While the front clip is off Im going to rebuild the 454 and the 205 again. (the 400 tranny was done a year ago... those 9'snowplows are hard on them!)

Hope to have truck mostly done by end of Nov.

Could post pics as I go , if anyone is interested?

Thanks again for your help! Steve
