Differences between c10 and c20 springs

What are the differences in c10 and 20 springs, front and back? Can i take a drop spring from a c10 and put in my c20? Not worried about hauling capacity because the truck wont do any hauling. Looking to drop the front 1 inch and the rear maybe 2-3 inches.

Re: Differences between c10 and c20 springs

I put half ton springs in my 3/4 ton, just to soften the ride.

Did you have to chamge anything? A softer ride would be a plus, but also a small drop would be nice, and nobody makes a 3/4 ton drop, so that leaves me looking at 1/2 tons

Wow, lots of info in there... I think i will order up spme 2 inch drops for the rear, or maybe just block it and order 1 inch drops for the front, hopefully this will level the truck out

Thats a really good document...very interesting.
I think there might be a typo tho' in the second paragraph where it mentions that H.duty springs are generally designed to carry 3% to 5% more load. I think this should be 30% to 50% greater load capacity. The 3-5% number doesn't work with the capacities listed below in the document. Great info tho' on the specs listed!!...very helpful.
All Good

Re: Differences between c10 and c20 springs

Indeed a very good intro to springs. For the first paragraph or so, I could swear I was reading one of my old articles, aside from the use of 'variable' rather than 'progressive' as the common term. For a number of years I was the 'suspension guy' in a car group I use to be very active in.

Anyway, the specs on the C10/C20 springs are VERY helpful.

Just for a point of clarification, can anyone confirm the "Load Height" and "Free Height" values?

Does the Free Height indicate the height of the spring off the vehicle or the static height of the spring while in the vehicle without any additional load (i.e. Preload)? Same with the "Load Height"... Does that indicate the the height of the spring while at Preload, or the height of the spring at the indicated Design Load?

I assume the Free Height is the height of the spring uninstalled. I'm curious to know what the Load Height value is showing. Either way, with that Free Height assumption, I'd caution anyone to buy a set of springs based on the Free Height and assume they're going to raise or lower their vehicle. The most important value to know when determining how much it'll raise or lower your vehicle is the Preload height, assuming an otherwise stock vehicle with no additional loads factored in.

I could have sworn I've seen 3/4 ton lowering springs for sale somewhere, but I can't find them using this dang phone.

CPP sells a 4" drop "Heavy duty" spring set. I have them on my truck, and honestly I don't think they're even 1/2 ton rated. I'm considering swapping in 5" drop springs instead. I've heard they're inconsistent.

You might have wrote some of the information, trust me I am not taking credit for any of that information I found this info here: http://www.67-72chevytrucks.com/vboa...d.php?t=336257.

I personally just like to find data about a topic and save it under a WORD DOC. That way if I ever need something I know where to find it, hence COIL SPRING document (well in this case a PDF).

Re: Differences between c10 and c20 springs

everything i find is too much of a drop, being a c20 the rearend sticks way up into the sky, i want to drop that maybe 2-3 inches, and the front about 1 inch, leaving it somewhat factory height, mostly level with a very slight rake. maybe i will block the rear with some 2 inch blocks and cut the coils up front, or try to unt down a set of 1 inch drop spirngs for the front. might even ditch the blocks for the rear and find some 3 inch springs for the rear. i wish there was more options for a slight level and drop.
