2007 Silverado as donor truck?
I've been thinking of getting a 5.3L and the 4 speed auto that goes with it for my truck. About the best way I have found to get it is getting a wrecked 01-08 truck/tahoe/avalanche/ect.
Right now I've got my sights set on a 2007 Silverado with 60k miles on it. The body is a complete mess but the drive train and all 4 wheels don't appear to be damaged. My question is what else can I take off this newer vehicle, and has anyone else already done it? I've done a bit of wrenching but mostly just remove the old part and install the new, haven't done much in the creating department so I'm not sure if I can use the front brakes ect as well as the motor/trans. Thanks guys.

Re: 2007 Silverado as donor truck?
Donors are always nice, use any parts you need or want as you go. All of the parts will work together so there's no worries with the harness/engine/trans/PCM being compatible. You take the harness out so you can keep up with where everything goes and know it's not cut. Plus when you're done you part out the rest and recoup a chunk of your funds back.
Just make sure whatever collision or damage caused it to be totalled didn't mess with the drivetrain. |

Re: 2007 Silverado as donor truck?
I stripped a 2004 GMC Savana 2500 and put the 4.8l and 4L85E in my 68 C10. I took the entire wiring harness, minus the ABS and Airbag, steering column and dash cluster. Even put the stock fuel pump assembly in the fuel tank.

Nice. I was planning on pulling the wiring harness as well. I was hoping to be able to use the brakes off of it as mine are still the drums. I don't see much about adapting trucks after the '87 style though.

You could probably use the rear axle for your build, but none of the front suspension components will swap over.
