SPID has been painted over by PO.

So, I went to get a picture of my SPID label in my 67 CST truck today. I was disappointed that a previous owner had completely painted the inside of the glove box door.
I can tell the SPID label is there, but completely painted.
Is there anyway to find out the original options list for a truck based on a VIN number?
I do have the original Protect-o-Plate for the truck and know based on what is still there of some of the options. But does GM or some other place have any file as to original equipment specific to VIN numbers?

Re: SPID has been painted over by PO.

The short answer is "no". There are no such records. However, there have been a couple threads the last few years that discuss removing the paint. I'd guess the odds are against you though. Note that the 67s did not have a plastic layer over the SPID as did a couple of the later years (71s and 72s?).

Well that's a bummer.

Re: SPID has been painted over by PO.

GM Heritage Center records start for 1976 model year and later (for Chevy pickups).

GM of Canada Vintage Vehicle Services does have VIN/RPO information farther back but only for vehicles built in Canada or built in the US for Canadian usage.

Contact George Zappora at http://www.vintagevehicleservices.com/options.html if you are interested in further detail.
