Steering column! need help!

Hey guys. I replaced the turn signal switch on my 68 c10 (non tilt) and the bearing/turn signal housing will not go back on correctly. It is rotated probably 2 inches left (counter clockwise). There are 3 tack welds on the column that look like keepers to stop the housing from turning with the steering wheel. It fits on them but once everything is bolted up. It is rotated left and I can twist it left to right with my hand (The housing for turn signal and bearing) where the blinker and hazard switch is. Also my steering wheel rubs. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance!

Re: Steering column! need help!

There are two or three humps/ slots that the turn housing seats on that. Sounds like from your description what the problem is. I will look for a pic for you.

Re: Steering column! need help!

Look at the 6th pic in this link. Notice three small humps and the larger alignment slot. If you put it together right and get everything seated correctly it will not allow the housing to spin or the rub issue you noted. Hope this helps.

Just above that spot where you see the blank boxes for URL there are some boxes that say "upload file from computer" (you can use phones photo album) and just directly post it. No need for 3rd party. Once you chose the file, scroll right and "upload" then "close attachment window."

Hope that helps.

Re: Steering column! need help!

See how it's rotated counter clockwise when it is sitting on the notches? It won't go on straight!

Re: Steering column! need help!

If I'm looking at it right I don't think the plastic washer with the notch on it is suppose to go in that slot, take it back out and put it in the big slot and it will go down further.

Re: Steering column! need help!

Chevy_life, I looked at the picture wrong earlier. If you look at the schematic shown above there should be a bushing seat-metal no.3 and a shift housing bushing plastic no.2 on the bottom side of the shift housing and on the top of shift housing there should be a plastic thrust washer no.40 and a rubber ring no.39 once there in place you can put the turn signal housing on. Hope this helps
