drive shaft length
Hi everyone! Can anyone give me the correct length of a shortbed driveshaft (one piece) from the end of the slip yoke (TH 350) to the center of the U Joint bearing cap? I sure thought I'd end up cutting my driveshaft, running a 700R4, but my drive shaft is roughly two inches too short, maybe 1 1/2" of the yoke in the tailshaft of the trans. and currently, this is the bare chassis, no body weight on the suspension, I figure it would only get worse with the added weight, with regards to chassis droop.....any ideas?
Thanks! Ben Smith |

Re: drive shaft length
Best bet to attain the correct length is to call a DS shop for how they want you to measure it. There are too many factors to give you what your asking for. Position of engine sitting in frame among ride height are all factors that need considered. Prices are all over the place for custom, balanced shafts from $150-$300 or more.

Re: drive shaft length
Short th350 about 28" compared to 30" for the 700r4 looks like you will need 2".

Re: drive shaft length
Interested to know what they charge you..Another option would be to find a longer one (since u know your length) have them cut it n balance.

Cut and balance is a good idea but it probably wouldn't include new U-joints.
