Muncie SM420
Possibly a dumb question... Will a Muncie SM420 bolt to a small block 350?

Re: Muncie SM420
The simple answer is "Yes" - but look here:
SM420: (4 speed used in ½, 3/4, 1 and 2 ton trucks from 1947 to 1967). http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/sm420.htm SM465: (4 speed used in ½, 3/4, 1 and 2 ton trucks from 1968 to 1991) http://www.novak-adapt.com/knowledge/sm465.htm The SM420 was the 4-speed for '67, while its replace was the SM465 which was the primary 4 speed used for the 68-72 trucks. The front bearing flange is a different size, so you need the correct bell housing for each, but assuming you have the Chevrolet bell housing for the SM420, it will bolt up to both the V8s and I6s of the 67-72 trucks. The SM420 was made for a lot of years, but only in the last year ('67) does it have a reverse back-up light switch. |

Re: Muncie SM420
They are good if you want durability and authenticity or a granny low.
They aren't so desirable for the street with the long throw shifter and wide ratios. That said, I can't wait to get a gearvendors behind one or a SM465 to split the wide ratios nicely.
