Chevy/GMC frame

Is there a differnce in 63-66 GMC short bed chassis vs a 63-66 Chevy short bed chassis. I want a Chevy short bed but I am seeing that the GMC is slightly cheaper in cost.

The GMC frame usually has rear leaf springs the Chevrolet usually has rear coil springs. there is a difference.

Is there a difference in the frame itself. I heard that the GMC is more commercial grade and tended to be a little more stout. Do you know if that is true. If so, which one is better for the hot rod style truck that everyone wants.

GMC frames also do not have vin stamped in them like the chevy's do. Mines a GMC and had leafs but i had a buddy with a chevy longbed frame. I took the rear coils sup from and mounted the my frame. Trailing arms are all the same. Just front mount location is differant from short to long beds. If you do this get everything shock mount bracket etc.

Same as far as i know. I don't believe any of the old tails of one being better then other. But if it is true id have to same the GMC. just because they seem they were more of a work truck the the nicer chevys of the day.

okay so ....Hotrodding is a big term...One mans rocker dragging hotrod is another mans tow rig for his boat. One person wants it up high another down low. So it's not which is best but which is best for your application. I have build alot of 60's trucks and have always like to start with the trucks with out leaf springs because for what i like to do it's faster/cheaper. I like the ride of coils or air bags over leaf springs and i like'em low and lean kinda thing.... Springs aren't impossible to lower it's just more of a hassel for me. Put the rear end over the springs, take the spring packs apart and bobs your uncle . But in a rear coil truck 4 bolts new lowering coils or air bgs and you have a better ride and your low and moving on . If your going to set up to tow a boat or somethng maybe springs would work better for you. So I would start with whats the over all plan to have the truck do or be used for and pick the right application for the build....but thats just my opinion
