No Big Deal Motor

I was cleaning up some pictures and found this one I liked of my engine compartment I wanted to share.

Primarily because it was, by comparison, pretty low bucks. I used the motor, after cleaning and sealing it up,
that came with the initial pile of parts. I made a mistake by not changing the freeze plugs before I put it in.....
...but that's another story.

No big deal late 70's 350 with an early 90's serpentine system. Clean chrome headers that I think I remember
being Hooker's (came with the parts) are about 50% blue.

Painted the fire wall the same color as the interior, engine side of the front fenders, and the inner fenders, with
some fairly inexpensive EBay paint (called "Black Cherry").

The serp system fit fine after one add'l hole on each of the iron heads drilled and tapped for the mounting.
Hid some wires by various methods. New (Ebay from Canada) brake booster. Street Demon carb (625cfm),
cleaned up and painted Edelbrock Performer intake manifold.

The air cleaner, valve covers, and plug wire covers were all a bargain. I think $35 for the plug covers, $75 for
the valve covers, and about the same for the air cleaner.

Just wanted to put it out there.

What is the part number on that hose? Been looking for one that fits my truck with the same belt set-up

It's just a stocker hose with a fiber-weave covering on it. Any numbers are "permanently" covered by the sheathing. But, I think just a "90 or 94
GM small block top radiator hose" would be all you'd need to cross-check it. I put a very small chunk of dense-cell foam block on top of the alt.
with a dab of RTV.

I used that covering because all of the hoses I looked at (that were trick) were big bucks.

I'll look for the packaging for the covering, if you like. It came in a bunch of widths, like shrink wrap. But it doesn't shrink.

Thanks, MM.

You really can't tell, but it's a mouse. Closest thing I could find to a rat that I could drill and tap.

Truck's name is "RAT".

Re: No Big Deal Motor

how did you run the wires out of the bulkhead thing? is that just a hole drilled with a grommet? I like that better than the bunch of wires running on top of the firewall gutter thing like mine has

Thanks, Reno. Without your generosity, I'd still be looking for that glove box door.

Userone,

Right on. I sent the wiring from the top plug on the fire wal back into the cab through the hole that usually carries the speedo cable.
Then, the wires on that plug that I needed exit the cab through existing holes (except one) at places closer to their actual use. All with
grommets, of course.

The lower plug wires that go to the lights, horn, etc, I routed through the space between the inner fender and the inside of the driver's
side fender, then some (alt, horn, etc) out by the ww fluid bottle. The rest go along the bottom of the radiator and core support, under the
battery box and up to the fusable link.

On the speedo cable: It looked to be a perfect angle to go through the steering column hole and down to the trans. So, I made an
accommodation (a hole ..hahahaha!) in the steering column boot.

I like the clean look on the upper fire wall, too. That's why I also plugged off the washer holes and ran the lines to the pump inside the cab.
Not that it matters, but for $20, I replaced a broken GM ww pump with a universal Napa part and mounted it on the wiper motor.

Thanks for asking.
