Help putting carb back on manifold
I know. I'm pretty good about taking pictures when I remove stuff but it slipped my mind this time. Replacing the gasket and intake manifold. And after removing the carb, two gaskets and the adapter plate, I can't remember the order they go back. Nothing is fitting correctly. Pics attached of my manifold and all the other components. Any help is appreciated.
Engine is 305 if that matters. |

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
with that manifold you don't need the adapter plate,
just bolt the carb with matching gasket straight to the manifold.

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
OK. I thought that might be the case. But when I do that my air cleaners touches one of the plug wires on the distributor. Will that be dangerous? Or is there any way to create a clearing?

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
Just take an air saw and cut away where it hits. Or spending on the air cleaner it has a dent in it to clear it. What air cleaner is it?

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
You can always put a spacer ring between the carb and air cleaner.

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
May I suggest: Do not use that adapter plate, but instead put a 1" phenolic heat spacer plate. The Edelbrock carbs are very sensitive to heat soak in the bowls and a heat resistant spacer plate would make that problem basically disappear. Get one that has the four holes in it, vice the one that is an open square, to keep the flow going from the carb to the intake manifold. It is all in the flow characteristics that helps to make power.

Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
I see a square bore gasket and a spread bore gasket. Were these both being used before you did your work? Are you running a spread bore carb on that square bore intake? Is that spacer an adapter? If so, you cannot just drop your carb on the intake. You need to use that adapter. Otherwise you need a square bore carb to just drop on the square bore intake.
To assemble what you have (assuming a spread bore carb) do the following: 1) Place the square bore gasket (one with 4 equal size holes) onto manifold first. 2) Next, place aluminum adapter over gasket with square bore side down (side with 4 equal size holes). 3) Then, place the spread bore gasket over the adapter such that the large holes in gasket go over the large holes of the adapter. 4) Lastly, place carb over the spread bore gasket. Make sure that the larger butterfly valves are over the larger holes in the gasket and adapter. 5) install nuts on the studs, tighten down and you are good to go. Re: Help putting carb back on manifold
You can also space the air cleaner itself instead of the carb spacer. http://m.summitracing.com/parts/kys-100-68827-20
