Best sounding stainless muffler?

Need to order stainless mufflers to start my exhaust build. Want not too loud as I'm putting electric cutouts in.
Seen lots of new stainless mufflers at the swap meets last year with only a few days use on them. Owners all had the same answer. Too loud

Re: Best sounding stainless muffler?

A lot of the exhaust companies have sound bites on their website. I don't put a lot of stock in those, but it gives a consistent reference between their own mufflers using the same audio recording equipment, which is usually better than the cheap microphones that come on digital recorders. Computer speakers don't help with the sound either. Short of finding vehicles in person with the mufflers you want to hear, you can always put sound bites on a jump drive and run it down to a Guitar Center. Aside from in person, there's nothing like hearing an exhaust system through a $5k sound system.

454 for my 70 1/2 bug: http://youtu.be/o35fNayQN20

These are 2 1/2" magnaflows, stainless on my stock 454. Have a great sound and not really all that loud.

IMO - Borla mufflers with 2.5" pipe and SS 12" tubes.

have the Magnaflow's with 2 1/4" ( I think) stainless pipes, loud enough to hear especially if you romp on it but overall a very quiet, good sounding system. It has a mellow "throaty" sound.

Truly, this is like asking what is the best sounding stereo speaker. If you get 10 reply's you will probably get 10 different answers.

I have Flowmaster HP-2s on my LS-powered '68 and love them. Drone is minimal and they're not harsh like a Turbo or Flowmaster 40-series. They even offer them in T304 stainless which means you can polish them nicely.
