front clip

1964 c10 stepside with 283. I would really like to convert my front drum brakes to disk brakes. would it be better to buy a conversion kit, or swap the entire front clip with a newer model. if so what year models with disk brakes would bolt right up to my 64.

Re: front clip

73-87 C10 front brakes are a direct interchange if you swap everything between the ball joints (including ball joints) or you can replace the entire front crossmember and suspension. See the FAQ section for some threads on this.

Re: front clip

You can leave the 64 crossmember in and just swap out all the later model parts. The only differnce in the two crossmembers are the later model ones use a larger u bolt for the lower control arm. You can drill out the 64 crossmemer and use the larger u bolts. You will also have to redrill for the idler arm.
