Ruined the cluster panel by using a cleaner.

I forgot to put this on here the other day. I was using the cleaner called Awesome while swapping interior in the short bed. I was mainly using it to clean any metal surface while I any plastic trim off. While I had the dash pad off I was spraying some of this cleaner and some of it had sprayed onto the cluster panel. I took a rag to start to wipe it down and clean the panel in the process. I quickly realized this was going bad very fast. Here are the results. Where I wiped the finish came right off. Then there was the spray spots that I didn't even touch after seeing what would happen if I tried to wipe it.

I have used this cleaner on a lot of stuff and never had any issues. Until this.

That really sucks. Gonna repaint it? Swap the cluster lens out?

I would swap the panel out but it is a diesel panel. I might just see about tearing that face of and order a new one to stick back on the panel.

Yikes. On another note, that cleaner is great. It took deck stain off my vinyl siding with no problems.

You should send the photos to the manufacturer of the cleaner. Who knows, maybe they'll cover the cost of replacement parts......

Re: Ruined the cluster panel by using a cleaner.

Having accidentally started the experiment, might as well pull the panel, use the cleaner to remove the rest of the finish, and try painting the panel to the color of your choice. Might wind up with a nice looking panel for not much money. You could always explore the reface option if the clean and re-paint turns out poorly.

Unless there are no safety precautions or warnings on the bottle or package, why should he do this and why should they pay for the damage??

I agree. Usually they have a little note saying something to the affect of trying it someplace inconspicuous first.

rs74, thanks for the heads up about that.

Re: Ruined the cluster panel by using a cleaner.

I would go ahead and spray the rest of the panel and finish what has been started. then tape off the rest of the panel and spray with some good clear.
