Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
A couple of months ago I sold a 6.2 diesel engine to a guy. He had mentioned that his friend was at an estate auction and came across a new GMC grill still in the box. He called the guy who bought bought my engine knowing he had a GMC and was told to buy it. Once it got back home he realized it was for a newer style as he had a 79 model.
He told me what he would take for it. So today I made the trip and picked it up. It wasn't until I got back home that I ran the number that was on the box. 15553637 is the number which come back to a 91 van. A van grill???? SMH. It is a nice new grill though. Lol. I guess I should have run the numbers while I was there picking it up. Oh well.

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
I could be wrong but I remember someone posted that van grilles are the same as truck grilles.

Lol. I have it tore apart now to see. It looks like it might go right in. One difference I see so far is that the GMC letters are made into this grill where the others bolt on. Will post pics if it goes in.

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
Before you give up on it, verify if it is the same as the grill on yours.
It might have been that at the time it was purchased, it was only compatible with a current vehicle, and in '91 that would have been a van? I know the van grills in some cases are very close, maybe even cross over?

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
I ended up taking the grill out of my 86 K30 and put it in the 84 diesel short bed. I put this van grill in the K30. The new grill is for a 91 G1500 van. The grill is almost identical to the factory 86 grill I took out of my K30.
The only difference that I could see were that the GMC letters were molded into the grill rather than a bolt on. Also three of the mounting fingers on top are a bit longer. Where the mounting clips slide on the grill actually set back towards the radiator enough that you can't use them. There are five screws that bolt this down on the top side. Of those five I could only use two. The first screw on the left, middle and last screw on the right I could not make work using the clips. Tomorrow I think I am going to drill a couple of new holes in the grill so I can bolt it down. Oh I should also say that where the screws go through the mounting panel there are two sets of holes. One is the factory location. There are another set directly behind those holes that set back about 1/2". I had to use those new holes to get the two screws that I have in there now. I will get a pic of that here in a few. Here are a couple of pics of the truck and also the new grill in the K30. You will also see the GMC letters are molded rather than bolt in too.

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
I didn't like the factory 84 grill when I first got the truck but it grew on my. Just wish it wasn't all faded and chaulky. It did have some broken tabs and fins on it though. I kind of think it gave the truck a little more of a "race" look. I do like the 86 grill on it too. Gave it a little updated look I think. Just doing little things to it as I can.

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
Picture of the 86 grill in the 84.
New 91 grill holes in the second pic. Other than those three holes it fit really well.

Re: Live and learn. Thought I scored today.
The van grilles are technically the same. You can drill the holes to mount it and then square them off for your plastic clips. It really isn't too bad to do. As far as the letters go, you can also drill the holes to mount them. I hope this helps. It looks to me like you scored.
