I picked up a 71 lwb to steal some parts from. Anyways it has 2 lines coming off the fuel tank up the cab corner towards the roof? First one I've seen like this... can some one teach me something? I tried searching with no luck thanks!

Looks to be Calif. stupid evap, God Save The Queen, OMG we need clean air, non-vented gas cap, emission mumbo jumbo! You should have a canister under the battery tray, with a line from the tank & one from the carb (for vaccum).

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
The top one goes up into the door frame it is a high loop to make sure no gas goes out(anti siphoning) only vapors go to the ece cannister vup by the erad core support as well as the tubing that goes to the carb// that is in fact the vent for the gas tank which most clowns block it off and cause vthemselves all sorts of mystery gremlins that they cant seem to grasp the importance of

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
California has had all these crazy requirements for all these years now but still has the worst air quality and smog. Goes to show it doesn't work.

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
Gas vent lines to Charcoal canister. They came on all 71 and 72 trucks mandated by the F/G back then.

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
I just installed this system (evaporative emissions control, EEC) on my '70 to prevent fuel vapors from filling my garage every time I park it. This system was added in the early 1970's to reduce smog. This system will not hurt engine performance, if anything it will help it. You will not be wasting fuel to the atmosphere through evaporation since the vapors get sucked back into the engine from the charcoal canister. Unless you love the smell of fuel vapors, I would leave it. If you do decide to delete the system, make sure you get a vented fuel cap.

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
I deleted that loop in my truck, and that was a mistake. With a non vented gas cap, fuel purged itself through the vent line I had set up under the truck and ran out on the ground. This occurred every time after I filled up the tank. So I installed a vented cap, and with a full tank gas sloshed out every time I made a hard right turn. I put the loop back in with the original cap and no more problems.

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
The "burp line" from the top of the tank to the filler was cracked and leaking on my truck. I replaced it and the two lines leading to the loop. Still have faint gas odor.
From the photo above, looks like the loop isn't made up of a single piece of steel, but consists of a rubber section at the actual loop. Is my observation accurate? If so, I may have to replace that section of hose too! --Mike

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
So on the drivers side there is a tube going up the cab also. Am I correct in saying it ties into the loop on the passenger side?

Re: Fuel lines in cab????
The loop tube is one piece. What you are seeing in the diagram is a piece of woven cloth tube to stop any vibration from hitting the body.
