Help with rear end identification....Eaton HO72? - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I did some research and was wondering if I am correct about this 1969 dually rear end being an Eaton HO72. They say the difference between the HO72 and HO52 is the load bolt at the front of the unit which looks like a some type of adjusting nut.

It is in what is left of his C-30 cab/chassis truck, 350/th400.

Sure looks like a H072. But load bolts were used on both H052 and H072 axles. Up on the top flange face, the axle code will be stamped in. That would verify original application and ratio.

Yup. My HO52 has the load bolt too.

I thought the difference between the two was in the spider gears?

Get the code off the axle carrier then decide if it will work for you.
My guess is its a 4.57
They are very rugged axles and generally don't need a lot of parts.

To keep this simple, if it's a dual wheel rear in a C/30 it is most definitely an HO72.
