trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
I'm having some troubles figuring out what I need to change my truck back to what it is.. 67 GMC, not Chevy...
I mistakenly changed it when building to save money and moved across country and now don't have any of the parts.. I know I need 67-68 core support , center support, 67 grille, but I've seen some grille's that have the upper support attached.. Is it only grille with GMC letters on it that will be right? Also light buckets... Are they same from a 67 to later? Brothers trucks sells them as many years fitting. I'm alittle confused and frustrated I didn't keep that stuff 😈 |

Yes the 67 grille has the GMC letters in it which is a 1 year only deal. The headlight buckets are also 67 only.

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
What hood do you have now? You can use any 67-72 core support, add GMC buckets to a 67/68 Chevy one, and if you have a 67/68 hood you need the piece of body that fills between grille and hood that no one makes, or if you have a 69-72 hood you need the chrome 3pc surround. You also need a GMC hood latch that goes with which hood you have. The paddle on GMCs are offset due to the grille design having an upright in the center.
I was buying the GMC parts from guys when they were swapping to Chevy back before they starting catching on to the coolness of a GMC

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
I have the original GMC hood, slope front.
You know the difference in light buckets so I know what to look for? I'm going to a swap meet at good-guys today and I wanna look for some... |

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
I understand your confusion, I'm in the process of converting my '71 Chevy to a '67 GMC.
I initially changed it to a '69 GMC, now I have the '67 hood. What I can tell you from my experience is that you don't have to change the radiator core support, if you have the GMC headlight buckets. I attached them with self-tapping screws. Mine are from a '69 and they fit. I removed the chrome bar that sits between the hood and grill. Just drill and chisel the rivets off. A little tricky, but it can be done. You will need the hood latch, center support, and the '67 upper grill support. You can order one from GMC Paul's, they just started reproducing it. I chose to save some money and just bondo the '71 fenders. You can see there isn't a big difference. Hope this answers all of your questions. So far, this is everything that I know. Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
So if just get the buckets they will work on my 67 Chevy rad support? I'm guessing there is some fitment to be made to make the lights fit the grille? No dimples for alignment on the Chevy core,to attach gmc bucket stands... Everything else is the same?

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
I had to fit the grill in place to line up the buckets behind it, marked it out, removed the grill and attached the buckets. I didn't have any fitment problems.

Not sure what bumps you're referring to, I don't see a difference between my core support and yours.

Where the headlights mount too. GMC has the tall bumps, where the Chevy is almost flat

Sorry man, I'm not sure. If you look them up on sokyclassics.com there's pictures of the 4 different core supports.

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
Here's the deal with GMC core supports. The only difference between 67/68 and 69-72 is the 67/68s have the threaded mount holes for the splash pan. You can use a 69-72 just fine and omit the splash pan. The 67/68 center support has a place for a bolt for the splash pan, so if using splash pan you need that support, or you can use either type with no splash pan.
Only 67/68 Chevy core supports can be adapted (well, with much less work than 69-72) because the headlights sit wider and are right where the outer GMC headlights mount. You need to install inner headlight mounts. The GMC buckets are for the 5" bulbs and Chevys are 7". You'll need the 4 GMC headlight rings (retainers), too. The easiest way to go is buy the GMC stuff, but there are ways to get around it.

Re: trying to get back my 67 GMC front end!!
Well thank you! I did learn some of that today myself. Was at good guys and asked a bunch of questions and looked at many cores! Found a GMC core support and OEM trim, just to find those buckets for the lights and I'm golden!!
