Intake manifold gasket change...
If I were going to change the intake gasket and the valve cover gasket is there anything else I should do while I have it all apart? I have seen some engine gasket sets, but I am not sure what all is included in them. Is Fel-pro the way to go of should I look at other brands?

go down to your local Napa and ask them for a intake gasket and valve cover set. make sure all the surfaces are clean. Use new hardware if even slightly rusty or pitted. and I've found that using blue painters tape to tape up the valley will keep debris from contaminating the insides of your motor.

Felpro is always a good thing. Do you already have the intake off? If not, don't be surprised if there is some carbon buildup under the intake.

I have been using Fel-Pro's rubber Permadry Plus line of gaskets for almost 10 years now. That's on both the oil pan and the valve covers. Since switching to this style from cork, I have never had one leak - not at all. Never seen even a drop of oil get past these gaskets. Along the same lines as this from reporter000001: I've found that using blue painters tape to tape up the valley will keep debris from contaminating the insides of your motor. When pulling the intake manifold - for any reason - I make sure to have a shop-vac right there next to me. Invariably, when the valley is first released and pulled off, some crap will fall down into the lifter bores and also near the oil drains. It is a real good idea to immediately vacuum out the entire valley at the initial opening stage. Cover the floor of the valley with a towel while working. And then, at the last minute before you button up, hit everything with the vacuum again. The debris that forms in that area is hard to see - as are the chunks of old, scraped off gasket material. The oil pump has a screen on the pick-up tube, so it probably would not hurt your engine if something fell down into the sump - but why chance it. |

Shove clean rags in the intake ports while you clean the mating surfaces and don't forget to remove the lol,Use a tiny bit of rtv around the water jackets and i use rtv on the china rails which are the end edges of the block that meet the intake.
