Thinking about converting my canister filter on my '68 307 to a spin on. I was wondering if anybody had done it and how it turned out. And if you did do it and like it, what kit did you use?

I did it several years ago. There is a kit for it. It was pretty routine & worked real good.

I did it on my 69 about 1972. Worked fine. I think mine used a Ford FL-1A filter. If I were near my parts stash, I'd give it to you.

Why? The cartridge filters have more surface area. They may be messy to change , but filter better and probably about the same cost.

I have done this on every engine I have ever owned with an OE canister filter.

I don't debate that it is out there, but I question why you want to do it.

Does a spin on save money? Not really

Does it hold more oil? No, it holds less (unless you use the big truck filter, but that has space challenges and is quite spendy)

Does it have more filtering area? No, it has less (see above)

Does it dress up your engine compartment? not really

I'm not saying don't do it or that it can't be done. I'm just asking why you would want to.

I attempted to on my 69 short step just so I didn't have to inventory ANOTHER filter. But it leaked. So I took it off and tried again. It leaked. Once more. It leaked.

Probably 6 times I had that stupid thing on and off before going back to the parts store and buying a replacement element. Put the cannister back on, NO LEAK!

Your mileage may vary, but I'm out in the future.
