Dash Question

My "new" '72 Sierra Grande, purchased sight unseen over eBay, has turned out to be an excellent truck needing only minor TLC. I'm working off some of the quick-fixes now and need to access behind the dash to replace bulbs and check a few items. Very crowded from underneath due to AC hoses. My question is, do I get some access from the top if I pull the dash pad?

I don't think so but you might be surprised how easy it is to pull the dash cluster. You then have lots of access and easy bulb, wire, switch ac hose repair maintenance. Once you have done it the first time it is then only about a 10 min job to pull one. Good luck

Many thanks, that's very helpful. It does look like the cluster comes forward pretty easy. I did want to look at the radio wiring too, and doing that from below means moving the AC hoses and the whole heater/AC control unit. It's pretty dense under their because of the AC system.

You will have to lower the steering column but no other real tricks. Enjoy

I have had my cluster out a few times and did not have to lower the column. Removing the glove box liner gives good access to the radio too. removing the headlight switch the first time was a mystery but now no problem. Push the button on top of the switch and pull the knob out. Good Luck!

if you pull the dash pad, you're still looking at a metal dash. you'll have to go underneath and behind

and if I'm not mistaken, you almost have to take out the gauge cluster to remove the dash pad anyhow.. or at least it would be much easier if you did.
