Custom job or aftermarket option? :fuel tank
Pulled the tank on my Jimmy last night. I was wondering if this was some homemade art or an aftermarket piece that was available during its time? It has fasteners that bolt in from the bottom up to a "hanger " in the bed. I had to drill them out from the top because I couldn't get them to break loose. Here's some pics.

I have only seen mine from the underside installed but it appears the same.
I was shocked on my first fill up that with an 8th tank still it took 38 gallons. If mine is rusty I would love a replacement with similar volume. Can I ask why you pulled it out and if you plan to reuse the same take or is it too rustY? Thanks PG |

I have the same tank and love that I don't have to live at the gas station. Its a mountain man tank lol.

I have the identical tank as well. Works vary well. I plan on reusing mine after my restoration is complete.

Stock tanks are usually 21 gallons. The hickey tanks put in were 40 gallon I believe. I've pulled two tanks and both are the same 21 gallon tank. One from a plain Jane blazer and one from a cst.

You guys that have this tank. There are 4 (what look to be bolt heads) on the bottom. Each with a square hole to fit you socket directly into. Do these twist off? Mine are corroded so bad they won't move and pounding on the bolts from the top isn't working either... Any suggestions?

My tank has them. I have never touched them to see if they twist off or not. They are the nut for the long threaded rod.

Super easy fix, heat them up with a torch! JK, don't do that. If they are in fact designed to fit a rachet directly into them, then soak them with some PB Blaster for a while, spray it in the top real good and let it run down inside where the bolt is, and also on the bottom, then put your rachet on the nut part and also put a pair of vicegrips on the bolt on top, and turn them both the same direction at the same time. With a little luck, they will come loose and you will be able to remove the bolt and nut together. I doubt that the bolt is rusted in the tube since it's a lot bigger than the bolt, but those nut things are probably 2 or 3 inches long where they screw on to the bolts, and that is what is rusted to both the bolt and the tube it's in. Let them soak as long as you possibly can stand to wait...

Its an old Aero 37 (or possibly 40) gallon tank. If you don't need the ground clearance, keep it - you'll appreciate it greatly in the long run;

Incidentally, NWMP no longer makes oversize tanks for our Gen 1 blazers - they sold that end of their business to SMF. Though SMF doesn't have any listing for oversize tanks for our 69-72 Blazers/Jimmys, they DO show a picture of our CBR-1 in their pics page;

hi,i have 1 1 pulled from a 71 blazer it looks the same,i think it is a 38-40 gallon tank.those 350 were hogs on fuel,but I still have it if someone is looking for 1,
