RIP: While it(truck) won't survive... I did
Not at fault.... was a doozy.... so glad I relocated the fuel tank out back and put in 3pt seatbelts out of an 2005 silverado. (upper shoulder bruise vs. missing teeth).

Re: RIP: While it(truck) won't survive... I did
Wow that really stinks. I am glad you walked away though, that's the important part.
What happened? And what does the other car look like? Edit: it looks like you were heading the other way and it swung you all the way around. I am sure it wasn't a fun ride.

Yup.. spun 360 + another 180 and ended up "rolling" backwards in oncoming lane. Driveshaft got pushed so hard it blew out the side of the tailshaft case on my 4L60e Late model (10-13') GMC Acadia Denali.... pretty fangle toothed up as well. (Made for an expensive day for the insurance company) Frame is pretty twisted.... cab is beyond repair (it twisted the passenger corner so hard it ripped the roof panel above the driver side.) Time I replace the box, the cab, door, and put it on a frame rack with a new axle(trac bar dog ear broke) and fix everything that was destroyed (bumper, brackets, fender braces, axles etc... it'll be cheaper for another truck. Shame It's banana'd pretty bad in the frame.

Really sorry for your loss
Everyone, you included, will say truck can be replaced, and glad you are fine, but it sucks to lose your truck outright like that.

I bought the truck back from the insurance co..... bypassed the 4L60e and jumpered out the NSS safety items I had... The motor is fine (It lives on...started right up actually!).... so time to pluck the 80k mi 5.3L LS (lm7) out.... all the new wiring out... my gauges out... and find another home. Installed 10" of exhaust flex piping.... this ended up saving my doug thorley longtube LSx headers.

Glad that you are okay. Really sucks about your truck.
Bet you this is a case of distracted driving (the other person, not you) cause I see it all the time. That's why I take my 1969 Firebird out very early weekend mornings for a drive. Most of the idiots are still in bed. |

Re: RIP: While it(truck) won't survive... I did
Damn buddy, glad you're okay and that at least the engine and some of the more expensive items survived. Hopefully you'll find another great project for it all. Sad to see the truck take a hit like that, but better it than you. The more damage we see, the more energy it absorbed, so as much as it would be nice to have a straight body and frame after an accident like that, you'd likely be 10x more rattled.
Keep us posted on next steps/another project! |

Wow that stinks. I'm glad you're OK. But damn I feel like I lost a friend. I'm in the process of installing my 5.3. I go back to your build thread constantly for answers to my questions.

While I love the look of the earlier trucks (pre-60), they all seem a bit tight on sitting space, which is why I've never gone after one. |

Re: RIP: While it(truck) won't survive... I did
I got a question about your setup.
Where did you pick up the rqdiator? Also did you run new trans lines to it with threaded connects? What did you use for motor mounts? Reason im ask8ng is I have the 5.3 vortec and same trans im about to put in my 65.

If that happened to me I would probably be in jail for strangling the guy. It is good that you are ok though.

sad to see, hope you can find another 64-66, there is a ton of salvage there, find a good frame, cab, box, and doors and you can be back on the road!
