Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
I need to get some tires on my truck and I was looking at some options. I saw a post on a old thread that I can use 19.5 8 lug wheels and they will fit. I found some but they have 225/70-19.5 tires on them. The tires I have now are 215's so I want to make sure that they will not rub. Ok wait I just had a dumb realization, if they rubbed they wouldn't be on those wheels would they? Can someone confirm anyway. Also how do I know if I have the split rims? Here is a picture of mine and a picture of the ones I found for sale. Do they have to be old ones and how can I tell?

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
The split wheels will have a ring around the wheel where one lip should be. Meaning if the wheel ring were missing there would be no edge for the tire bead to seat on/against. I have seen in other post on here that guys have used 19.5's on their trucks off of some P30's, I wanted to try that on mine as my 19.5 wheels has 7 new tires[who buys a new spare?] but my P30 was 5/10 lug set up. I don't know if the bigger wheels would have split rims you may want to look for some dually wheels they fit up to like 2000 or so according to Hollander[the salvages industries leading interchange source] but the lug bolts are bigger after like 72 or sometime in that range. Ford wheels will also fit but have a lining peg that has to be ground down or removed. Good luck with yours. Jim

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
No, I'm not conveying properly the right way to tell you. Yes you can tell if the wheel is a lock wheel or split rim one side will have a part of the wheel[the part the beads rest against]with a ring that is separate from the wheel and it will have a slot in it. Think of it like a big snap ring, that goes on to the edge of the wheel. Look for the groove[split] in the wheel bead that will tell you if it is a split wheel. On my 71 C-30 it has 3 regular and three split wheels So I still need to find 3 regular to make mine right.Where did you come across the 8 lug P 30 wheels and what do they cost? I may try to look for a set myself.also just looked back at your pic, look for the split on the inside I think you will find it there. Jim

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
I didn't find any p30 wheels yet. Those wheels up there I found out came off a ford 450 super duty so I don't think they will fit. I would have had a sweet deal if they would.

I think you are right in that the newer 2002 and up Ferd wheels will not fit. They are 8 X 170mm I believe and we need 8 X 6.5 inch. I am also looking for wheels for my 68 dually.

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
I'm sure you already know, but if you haven't done it, you may have to go to a 9/16's lug and captured washer lug nuts with other than stock wheels.....actually, it's not a bad idea with new wheels anyway.

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
You said the tires that you have now are 215s but the ones in the pictures are 245/70R16 or are you saying that you have 215s in 19.5 sizes? I think 19.5s only comes in 225 and 245 sizes but I could be wrong. I did a conversion on my C20 to accept front suspension and rear differential of a 1989 C3500. And I also located some P-30 wheels. The 225/70/19.5 fit nice and gives the truck a nice stance... but... I hate how it drives. If I had to do it all over again I would go with military 16 tires and forget about 19.5s. Of course my 19.5s are used tires so I you go with new one they may run much better.

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
I am not sure, I will have to check. I swapped out my dually rearend with a 79 14 bolt full floater unit for better gearing.

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
Most likely the 79 rear end is 9/16's. Are your front hubs stock? 1/2"?

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
Did they go to the bigger [9/16] studs in 73? Reason I am asking even though I am supposed to have my 71 C30 sold I found a line on a 72 C30 today that may be on the next list for projects. There was a pretty nice 68 in the FT. Smith [AR]section of the auto parts section of C-list but I don't know the link trick.[I barely can just drive what I have in front much of me much less get fancy]It was $2500 and it was /is a camper type rig with CST trim level 327-4 speed. The ad said very little rust. Jim

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
I'm sorry, I can't help you there. I checked two resources and one is dead wrong, (the very first line had '68 C20's with a 9/16 lug. When I got mine it was bone stock, with two piece wheels - [all six] - and 1/2" lugs.) The other was too vague to be helpful. (From 67 up into the '80's all it said was 1/2" or 9/16".)
Somebody that can tell us will jump in here pretty soon......

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
No, I swapped the front crossmember as well as the rear end. Disc brake 1 ton better gears..

Re: Question about 69 C30 wheels and options
Those 245 tires were just rollers on the outside to get the truck home, you can't fit 2 side by side.
